Building Big

Jen Hawthorne did a skill- sharing workshop today: she had studied in Sweden how to make large forms with a modified coiling technique.

The coil goes on the inside while pinching the outside up. Condensing the clay in a massage-like motion. The layer-building can be seen on the inside.

The pieces that were made were so large that the students could sit inside them or lie against them.

Because the pieces made on the course in Sweden were of such a size, the students were asked to destroy their work when the time abroad was over.

I made a large vase with the new skills learned on Jen’s workshop.
